 Ministry Opportunities

Altar Guild
"To ready all things necessary for the celebration of the Eucharist and the observance of other sacraments and offices of the church"

Our guilds are dedicated to work with loving care in God's sanctuary and we are thankful to them for all they do.  If you would like to participate in this ministry please contact Ruby White at St. Andrew’s or Evella Brown at St. Cyprian’s.
If you would like to give flowers in memory or thanksgiving on any Sunday, you should contact the altar guild members on duty for that month.

Lay Ministers
assist the priest by leading the Nicene Creed and serving the communion wine during Holy Eucharist.  They are appointed by the Rector and must be licensed by the Bishop to administer the chalice.  They are also trained to take the Holy Communion to those who are home bound immediately after the service of the Holy Eucharist in the church.  If you are interested in this ministry please speak with the Rector.

Lectors are those who publicly read the Scripture from the Old and New Testament during the service.  They also lead the congregation in the Prayers of the People.  Lectors are required to attend training sessions, and must be able to read with understanding, good dictation and voice.  This ministry is especially meaningful for those interested in congregational prayer and service.  If you are interested in this ministry please speak with the Rector.

Acolytes assist the clergy and participate in the service in varied and important ways.  Their responsibilities include lighting the candles before the service, serving as Crucifer leading the processional, carrying the torches, flags and banners, holding the Gospel Book during the Gospel reading, assisting the priest with preparing the communion, and extinguishing the candles at the close of the service.  If you are interested in this service to the parish, please speak to the Rector.

Ushers welcome and greet the congregation and visitors as they arrive, hand out service bulletins, and collect the offering during the service.  This ministry is a crucial component of helping newcomers and visitors form a positive first impression of St. Andrew's or St. Cyprian's.  If you are interested in serving in this capacity, please speak with the Rector.

Sermons for some services are recorded and will be provided below in an MP3 audio format.
