St. Andrew's and St. Cyprian's
Adult Sunday School is held each Sunday morning at 10:15 AM in the Parish House. The lesson is focused on the readings for the day and there are three mentors that share the responsibility of enlightening us. Before the program, a light breakfast is available and is provided by volunteers. We look forward to seeing you there.
Christian Men's Fellowship is an interdenominational group of men who build handicap access ramps and other home modifications, i.e. handrails and special stairs, for those in need and at no cost to the recipient. The group is comprised of men from 5 congregations, St Andrew's St Cyprian's, Morgan's Chapel Methodist, First Presbyterian, and most recently, Darien United Methodist. Approximately fifteen men from these churches have helped during the past year. The funding of the lumber and other supplies through L.I.F.E. (Living Independence for Everyone) in Savannah, GA keeps the need to raise funds at a minimum. They meet the third Saturday at B&J's Restaurant for a dutch-treat breakfast and updates. To date 101 ramps have been built in McIntosh and Glynn Counties. If you are interested in this ministry, please contact Peyton Lingle or Richard Hough through the church email address.
is an opportunity for spiritual enrichment. The Diocese of Georgia holds 3 retreats each year at Honey Creek Conference Center in Waverly, Georgia. The three day week end provides a chance to learn more about Christian leadership in the company of other interested people. After the weekend the Cursillistas continue to share their spiritual enrichment through their participation in Ultreya and leadership within their parishes. Ultreya is a Spanish word meaning "Onward". The Ultreya meetings are held monthly for those who have attended the Cursillo Christian Renewal weekend, but all who are interested in learning more about Cursillo are welcome to attend. The meetings usually consist of singing praise music, a worship service, and a covered dish dinner. The co-rectors of our Ultreya are Gay Jacobs and Sissy Lingle. Please contact either of them through the St. Andrew email for more information. Additional information is available at Diocese of Georgia, Cursillo web site and the national Cursillo website..
Education for Ministry in St. Andrew's and St Cyprian's Parishes
Education for Ministry, affectionately known as EfM, is a program of theological education-at-a-distance of the School of Theology at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN. Students sign up for one year at a time for this four year program. The program covers the basics of a theological education in the Old and New Testaments, church history, liturgy, and theology. We meet regularly, on Monday evenings, from September to May.
Our EfM program has graduated nineteen, soon to be twenty-one, students, since its beginning in 2000. The program grants a certificate at the completion of the four years, and 18 Continuing Education Units for each year's work.
Our programs are guided by a trained Mentor- not a teacher. The teaching is in the material provided by the University. EfM teaches you how to think theologically, deepens your faith and your understanding of our Christian heritage, and provides you with a new confidence to be Christ's minister.
Enrollment usually takes place about the first of August, and is widely publicized through Parish publications. For more information or to be directed to the Mentor, please email or call the church office. For additional information please visit the EfM website.
Episcopal Church Women, ECW, is comprised of all the women in the church. This organization is responsible for the Thrift Shop, its oldest continuing ministry; a Food Pantry, Five Loaves and Two Fishes; United Thank Offering gathering each fall and spring; a Scholarship for education beyond high school; youth camp scholarships; assistance to the school system for items such as eyeglasses, lice shampoo, shoes or other special needs; holiday food baskets at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter; the Prayer Shawl Ministry; bereavement dinners and others. The funds used for these activities are raised by the ECW or donated to them. The primary fundraising activities are gift-wrapping at Christmas, the Shrimp Creole lunch during The Blessing of the Fleet in April and crab stew and baked items at the Day in Darien in November. This group meets on the third Saturday in the months of September through May at 10:00 am in the Parish House. Please join us.
Wonderful Wednesdays: Soup, Salad and Spiritual Manna. On Wednesdays from September to May, we gather at 6:00 PM for a light meal, a Christian education program, and Compline ( an ancient service for the close of the day), and we finish promptly at 7:30 PM. Our meals are prepared by a group of dedicated volunteers and we ask for a donation of $5.00 to cover the costs of the food and the materials for the programs. Our programs range from the light and entertaining (the Gospel according to Mayberry) to more studious fare ( a history of Christianity in the British Isles). Hopefully, all are entertaining. Our routine varies slightly during Lent, when we gather for Evening Prayer at 6:00 PM in the church (alternating between St. Cyprian's and St. Andrew's) then eat and have a program that lasts until approximately 8:00 PM. Please come for sustenance for the body, the mind and the soul.
St. Andrew's Choir is a group of dedicated singers who gather for the love of singing. The choir sings at the 11:15 AM service at St. Andrew's every Sunday and practices on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. The Choir is directed by Diane Feeney and is open to anyone who loves to sing.
